Jane's 5th Birthday

We're having so much fun on Jane's birthday weekend. Thursday night we had a little party with the three of us, and jane got a few presents and a cup cake. On friday, we took Jane out of preschool on friday and went to a children's film festival at the beautiful, art deco Orinda movie theater. It was Jane's day so she got to choose what kind of food we ate, so we ate hot dogs in the diner next door to the theater, and then had plenty of popcorn during the movie -Jane was very happy about that because, as she often tells us, she like popcorn.

After the movie we drove up to Mt. Diablo State Park and went for a short walk up a creek to a beautiful meadow filled with wildflowers.

Jane loves to climb - she couldn't get enough of climbing up the rocks and small waterfalls in the creek.

I love wildflowers, so it just slays me the way Jane has taken an interest in wildflowers and has started to learn their names.

Jane's Kingdom of Wildflowers

Jane declared that she was a king of the wildflowers and that this land (mt. diablo) was her kingdom. What a wonderful kingdom, I would happily live there and be one of her loyal subjects.

Spring Rains at Redwood Park in Oakland

It rained all day today, but we went for a walk anyways in Redwood Park in Oakland. Jane and I played "monster in the woods". We'd take turns running ahead on the path and hiding behind a tree and making monster noises and then jumping out and chasing each other around. So much fun!

Pizza at Lanesplitters afterwards ...

Bongo Burger

It was Dad and Jane night, and it was warm outside so we went up to telegraph avenue, split a burger, fries, root beer, and sat outside and talked about silly stuff. Then we walked down the street to the university of california berkeley, and went to the art and music reception for the Western Wilderness Conference that I had been at earlier in the day, and dad yammered on and talked with some folks (boring), and then we danced to the country band that was playing. Such fun!
